The colder nights were drawing in. Scrapps walked a little closer to Vinny on their almost nightly pilgrimage to the Rampant Horse. Vinny had noticed the little dog was becoming more affectionate. He was sure Old Pete would have wanted that.
Scrapps trotted a little faster now that the pub was in view. Vinny smiled, he was sure the little fella still hoped Old Pete would be at his usual table, either that or he couldn't wait to munch on the pork scratchings Ken always gave him. The poor dog must have more salt in its body than a Siberian mine.
As Vinny entered the pub Dave did the universal symbol for get a round in mate.
Scrapps looked up at Vinny. Vinny looked down at Scrapps.
"I know mate, he really is a tight bastard. I don't know how long he's been nursing that empty glass either."
Vinny reached down and unclipped Scrapps lead and the little dog trotted over to sit on his bed under the Old Pete Memorial table.
Vinny did the business at the bar then sat down and handed Dave his pint and took a long look at Dave.
"That really is a resplendent jacket you have on Dave. How was the festival?"
Dave stood and did a twirl, his jacket featured multiple colours and patterns and would surely get him killed on the estate.
"You like it?"
"I do but won't Joseph want it back? Or at least Andrew Lloyd Webber's props department."
Dave sat and sipped his pint.
"You're such an old man Vinny. It was a FESTIVAL you have fun and dress up...."
"Like a twat?"
Dave shrugged.
"Indeed."
Vinny sipped his pint.
"But seriously I wouldn't walk around the estate with it on."
"I learned that lesson in my youth. I had full Dexys Midnight Runners dungarees on and got twatted outside the chippy."
"Still at least the jean material soaked up the blood eh?"
"Every cloud Vinny."
"So you had a good time then?"
"Yes it was a great weekend full of music, beer, old friends and crazy random events."
"Such as?"
"Well a one point I found myself dancing with six people all dressed in full dinosaur suits."
"Most of your dance moves are from the stone age."
Dave cast Vinny a withering look then sipped his pint.
"Joking aside I'm glad it was fun Dave. Old friends and laughter are what life should be about."
"I'll raise a glass to that."
